Yemeni Armed Forces claim responsibility for attack on US ship in Gulf of Aden
The Yemeni Armed Forces, under the control of the Houthi group, claimed responsibility on Wednesday for an attack on the US bulk carrier "True Confidence" in the Gulf of Aden.
The announcement comes after hours of uncertainty surrounding the incident, initially described as an "incident" without details.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, stated that their forces launched drones and missiles at the ship, causing a fire to erupt. He further claimed the attack was a response to the ship's crew ignoring warnings from Yemeni naval forces.
The attack resulted in at least three fatalities and several injuries among the crew members. The ship, which is Liberian-owned and Barbados-flagged, sustained significant damage and has been abandoned.
This incident marks a worrying escalation in the ongoing conflict in Yemen and raises concerns about the safety of commercial vessels traversing the strategic Gulf of Aden. (ILKHA)
