Highlighting the sector's long-standing tradition, Haluk Tezcan, industry representative, emphasized that flour production in Türkiye dates back 10,000 years and continues with modern facilities today.

Türkiye currently exports flour to over 6 countries, and despite facing obstacles like import taxes, Tezcan is confident of achieving the ambitious export target. He pointed out a 20% increase in exports compared to the previous year, showcasing the industry's growth trajectory.

Tezcan addressed concerns about wheat imports, clarifying that Türkiye imports wheat for specific flour and bakery products while maintaining self-sufficiency in domestic wheat production. This strategic approach allows them to cater to diverse global demands.

Tezcan believes artificial intelligence can revolutionize agriculture, potentially enabling Türkiye to export flour produced entirely from domestic wheat. He emphasized the need to embrace technological advancements to unlock agricultural potential and achieve self-sufficiency in the future.

Tezcan acknowledged the positive impact of the Ukraine-Russia grain corridor on Turkish exports, opening doors to new markets and contributing to export growth.

Iraq remains the top destination for Turkish flour, followed by Syria and Somalia. Other major export markets include Djibouti, Venezuela, Sudan, Yemen, Sri Lanka, Ghana, and Palestine.

Overall, the Turkish flour industry, despite facing challenges, remains optimistic about its future. With ambitious goals, strategic planning, and a focus on technological advancements, Türkiye aims to solidify its position as a global leader in flour exports. (ILKHA)
