Borrell expressed deep concern over the killing and injury of dozens of Palestinian civilians on Thursday morning as they sought desperately needed aid.

Borrell's statement, issued by the EU’s External Action Service (EEAS), highlighted the dire circumstances faced by civilians, with over a hundred reportedly killed and many more wounded during a stampede while attempting to access food from a convoy. He condemned the firing by Israeli soldiers on civilians, labeling it unjustifiable.

The EU official emphasized that the responsibility for the incident lies with the restrictions imposed by the Israeli army and the hindrances posed by violent extremists to the supply of humanitarian aid. Borrell called for an impartial international investigation to uncover the truth behind the tragic event.

Following suit, several EU leaders, including European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, have also condemned the incident and echoed Borrell's call for an international investigation. While not explicitly assigning blame to Israel, French President Emmanuel Macron squarely placed responsibility on the Israeli army for the tragic incident.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for accountability, with the international community closely monitoring developments in Gaza City. (ILKHA)
