The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) attributed the deaths to incidents of roof collapse and mudslides.

Pakistan is highly vulnerable to climate change, despite contributing minimally to global emissions. The country faces various climate risks, including floods, heatwaves, and extreme weather events like this. The PDMA had previously issued advisories urging preparations for such occurrences.

Rescue efforts are underway to reopen roads blocked by landslides and assist stranded individuals, including six tourists rescued in Swat's Malam Jabba area. The Met Office forecasts the adverse weather to persist for two more days, prompting authorities to maintain high alert for potential further landslides.

Most casualties occurred due to roof collapses, particularly in remote areas. The worst-affected districts include Bajaur, Dir, and Peshawar. Livestock have also reportedly been affected by the damage.

Provincial authorities, including the PDMA and Rescue 1122, are actively involved in rescue and relief operations. They are prepared to address emergencies and assist the affected population. (ILKHA)
