In a statement released on X, the London-based human rights organization expressed deep concern over the incident and stressed the need for prompt action. "There must be an urgent investigation into horrific reports that scores of Palestinians were killed & injured while trying to receive food aid in northern Gaza," the statement read.

The organization also highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, attributing it to Israel's ongoing bombardment and its long-standing blockade. "People are starving. The UN is warning of imminent famine. Israel’s relentless bombardment along with its tightened and suffocating 16-year illegal blockade are responsible for the catastrophic humanitarian crisis we are witnessing in the occupied Gaza Strip today," the statement added.

Amnesty International condemned statements by Israel's National Security Minister Ben-Gvir, who called for a halt to aid transfers to Gaza, labeling them as "outrageous and inhumane."

The statement emphasized Israel's obligations as the occupying power to ensure Palestinians' access to basic needs, including aid, and denounced its failure to meet these obligations as a breach of international law and International Court of Justice orders.

Furthermore, the organization urged Israel's allies to take immediate and effective action to prevent genocide and protect civilians in Gaza, emphasizing the need for accountability for any violations of human rights or international law.

Amnesty International's call for an investigation underscores mounting international concern over the situation in Gaza and the actions of Israeli forces. The organization's statement adds pressure on authorities to address the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident and ensure accountability for any wrongdoing. (ILKHA)
