The meeting comes amidst calls from the Islamic Emirate for the UN to prioritize resolving issues between the Afghan government and the international community, rather than dwelling on what they deem non-essential matters.

In a statement, the Islamic Emirate emphasized the need for the UN to lift sanctions, remove blacklists, and release frozen assets. They urged the UN to facilitate diplomatic engagement between Afghanistan and the international community.

Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, underscored the importance of encouraging other countries to engage with Afghanistan and emphasized that the UN should not obstruct diplomatic relations.

Earlier discussions at the UN involved Naseer Ahmad Faiq, chargé d'affaires of Afghanistan's Permanent Mission, who indicated that the UN secretary-general would present a report on Afghanistan to the council and discuss the appointment of a UN special representative for the country. (ILKHA)
