World Food Program calls for security guarantees to prevent famine in Gaza
In a statement on Friday, Cindy McCain, the executive director of the World Food Program (WFP), emphasized the critical importance of "security guarantees" to bring essential food supplies into Gaza.
This urgent call comes amidst a looming famine threatening over 2 million people in the enclave.
McCain highlighted the WFP's readiness to provide food supplies for up to 2.2 million people across Gaza. However, she underscored the necessity of ensuring sustained access and security guarantees to deliver these supplies safely.
The Gaza Strip has faced relentless airstrikes and attacks since October 7, resulting in a devastating toll. At least 28,663 people have been killed, leading to widespread destruction and severe shortages of basic necessities in the region. (ILKHA)
