While celebrated by his supporters, the landslide victory and inauguration ceremony raise questions about democracy and human rights in the oil-rich nation.

Aliyev secured a staggering 93% of the votes in the February 7th snap election, surpassing even his own previous record of 86% in 2016. However, the poll's legitimacy has been questioned by international observers and opposition groups, citing limited media freedom, restrictions on political assembly, and reports of voting irregularities. The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) noted "significant shortcomings" in the electoral process.

The inauguration ceremony at the National Assembly underscored Aliyev's consolidation of power. He placed his hand the Constitution, pledging to uphold the law and national values. However, concerns persist regarding restrictions on political dissent and media freedom, with some opposition figures facing imprisonment or exile.

Despite the landslide win, Aliyev's fifth term faces mixed reactions. Some citizens welcome his leadership, citing economic stability and recent military successes, while others express concerns about democratic backsliding and limited political freedoms. (ILKHA)
