Protests erupt across Pakistan over election results amid claims of rigging

Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), emerged as the largest party with 95 seats, falling short of a majority. However, it vehemently rejects the outcome, alleging widespread vote rigging and demanding new elections.

The protests come amid tense negotiations on forming a coalition government, as no party secured a clear mandate. This political uncertainty is compounded by legal challenges to dozens of constituency results.

Fueling the anger, Khan himself was barred from contesting due to recent criminal convictions, seen by his supporters as politically motivated. The PTI also alleges manipulation in several constituencies, leading to arrests during weekend protests in Lahore.

Authorities urged protesters to "show grace" and respect the law, warning against illegal gatherings. However, the PTI maintains its stance, further delaying the formation of a new government and raising concerns about stability in the nation. (ILKHA)
