Magnitude 6.1 earthquake strikes Japan's Volcano Islands
An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rattled the Volcano Islands in Japan today at 11:19 am UTC, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC).
The quake's epicenter was located 1,492 kilometers south-southwest of Yaizu city, home to 121,000 residents, and 820 kilometers from Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands. The seismic event occurred at a depth of 254 kilometers.
