The migrants were reportedly pushed into Turkish territorial waters by Greek authorities.

According to the Coast Guard statement, the rescue operation took place after receiving reports of a distressed rubber boat near Karaburun. Upon arrival, they found 67 irregular migrants onboard. The statement said that Greek authorities had previously pushed the boat into Turkish waters.

The rescued individuals were transferred to the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management for further processing and assistance. No details were provided on their nationalities or intended destinations.

The Turkish Coast Guard frequently accuses Greek authorities of engaging in "pushbacks," where migrants attempting to reach Europe are forcibly returned to Turkish waters. Greece denies these allegations, asserting their actions comply with international law and prioritize border security.

Irregular migration across the Aegean Sea remains a contentious issue between Türkiye and Greece. Both countries face challenges in managing migrant flows and upholding human rights while securing their borders. (ILKHA)
