This move signals a formal step towards recognizing the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, although many countries have yet to follow suit.

Karimi had already begun his duties as ambassador earlier this year after submitting his credentials to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

He also met with the Chinese Foreign Minister during the ceremony, receiving congratulations on his new role.

This ceremony signifies a formal step towards China's recognition of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan.

It follows Afghanistan’s appointment of Karimi as ambassador in December 2023 and his initial presentation of credentials to the Foreign Ministry.

While recognizing the Taliban, China joins a small group of countries who have taken this step. Many nations, including the United States, continue to withhold recognition.

It remains to be seen how other countries will react to China's move and whether it will influence their own decisions regarding recognizing the Kabul administration. (ILKHA)
