The incident occurred during a school picnic in the city of Vadodara. According to police, the boat overturned due to unknown reasons, throwing passengers into the water.

Rescue operations are still ongoing, with officials searching for any remaining survivors. The injured are being treated at nearby hospitals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed distress over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the affected families.

“My thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. May the injured recover soon,” Modi wrote on X.

The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected by the tragedy. This includes medical aid, grief counseling, and financial support.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident. The boat's operator and any other responsible parties could face charges.

The boat capsize has raised concerns about safety standards on waterways in India. Many boats are overloaded and lack proper safety equipment. (ILKHA)
