The incident occurred at approximately 5:50 p.m. local time as the aircraft was attempting to land.

Ellsworth Air Force Base, housing the U.S. Air Force 28th Bomb Wing with 27 B-1B Lancers, is one of only two bases worldwide hosting the B-1B.

The base's public affairs office released a statement indicating that the crew successfully ejected from the aircraft.

The B-1B Lancer fleet, comprising 45 of the supersonic bombers as of 2021, is set to be gradually replaced by the Northrop Grumman B-21 Raider after 2025.

Further investigations will be carried out to determine the cause of the crash. (ILKHA)
