Contrary to the initial expectation of immediate implementation in January 2024, the government has introduced regulations outlining the procedures for visa-free entry for all African visitors.
President Ruto had declared Kenya as a visa-free country during the national celebration, stating, “Beginning January 2024, Kenya will be a visa-free country. It shall no longer be necessary for any person from any corner of the globe to carry the burden of applying for a visa to come to Kenya.”
However, almost a week into the new year, the implementation has faced a delay, with the government introducing the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration (Amendment) Regulations, 2023. According to these regulations, individuals planning to visit Kenya must now register on a designated portal established by the immigration director. The move aims to streamline the visa-free entry process and ensure effective management of incoming visitors.
As the nation awaits the full implementation of the visa-free entry policy, these regulations provide insight into the government's approach to facilitate smoother and more organized travel for African visitors to Kenya. (ILKHA)
