High-level discussions were recently conducted between officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to align their efforts and objectives.

Richard Trenchard, the representative of the FAO in Kabul, emphasized the organization's dedication to improving the livelihoods of Afghan farmers and livestock owners. He articulated the FAO's intensified efforts aimed at ensuring food security in Afghanistan, with a primary focus on providing support to farmers and livestock owners.

Trenchard underscored the pivotal role of agricultural and livestock development in bringing about positive change in the lives of Afghans and bolstering the nation's economy. He assured continued collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture to advance these goals.

Mullah Sadr Azam Osmani, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, commended the FAO's effective initiatives and urged the organization to not only persist but also enhance its assistance to Afghan livestock owners and farmers. He outlined the pressing needs of Afghan farmers and livestock owners, including improved seed distribution, livestock breeding, promotion of vegetable seeds, fruit tree cultivation, product marketing, and modern machinery.

The FAO representatives pledged that their projects would be tailored to specifically address the requirements of the Afghan population, reflecting their steadfast commitment to sustainable development and food security in the region. The United Nations continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Afghanistan's agricultural sector and, by extension, improving the overall welfare of its citizens. (ILKHA)
