In a statement, Agnès Callamard, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, expressed deep concern over the unfolding humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip. She noted that the region's more than 2 million residents are grappling with a catastrophic crisis, marked by an alarming level of civilian casualties that has shocked the world.

Callamard emphasized the urgency of taking action to protect civilians and prevent additional human suffering, underscoring the need for all parties in the conflict to agree to an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

Amnesty International's call aligns with similar pleas made by the Special Rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, UN agencies working in Palestine, and a multitude of human rights experts represented by various UN special procedures.

The collective demand for a ceasefire underscores the critical importance of addressing the dire situation in Gaza and safeguarding the well-being of its population. (ILKHA)
