Erdoğan and Pope Francis discuss Gaza crisis in phone call

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Pope Francis exchanged views on the ongoing violence in Gaza and the need for a peaceful solution to the conflict, in a phone conversation on Thursday.

According to a statement by the Turkish Presidency, Erdoğan expressed his concern over the "massacre" of Palestinians by zionist forces and criticized the international community for its silence on the issue.

He also said that israel's attacks were unacceptable in any religion and violated human rights and international law.

The pope, who had earlier appealed for an end to the bloodshed in Gaza, thanked Erdoğan for his efforts to ease the tension and reiterated his call for dialogue and cooperation among all parties involved.

He also expressed his solidarity with the Palestinian people and prayed for peace and stability in the region. (ILKHA)
