"We are currently investigating what appears to be the use of white phosphorus in Gaza, including in a strike near a beachfront hotel in Gaza City," the statement revealed.

White phosphorus is recognized as an incendiary substance primarily employed for creating dense smoke screens or marking targets. When exposed to air, it burns at extremely high temperatures and can continue burning inside flesh, causing severe pain and life-altering injuries. Crucially, it cannot be extinguished with water. Amnesty International emphasized that the use of white phosphorus in civilian areas is strictly prohibited.

As Amnesty International intensifies its examination of these alarming incidents, it has called on Israel to uphold International Humanitarian Law consistently. The organization stressed the imperative to spare civilians from harm in the ongoing conflict.

The situation is unfolding amid heightened international concern over the humanitarian impact of the conflict in Gaza, with calls for restraint and adherence to international norms and laws governing armed conflicts. (ILKHA)
