The meeting, spearheaded by Russian special envoy for Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, is poised to delve into crucial topics, including the inclusivity of the current Afghan government, counterterrorism efforts, and combating drug-related crime.

Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting foreign minister of the Islamic Emirate, has arrived in Russia to participate in the meeting. Ahead of the official proceedings, Muttaqi engaged in various meetings with key Russian counterparts.

However, in a notable development, the United States has decided not to send a representative to the Moscow Format meeting. Addressing a press briefing, Matthew Miller, spokesman for the US Department of State, stated: “I don’t have much to say about that other than that we’re aware of the Moscow format meeting taking place. We are not members of the Moscow format, so a US representative will not be attending.”

Political analysts are closely watching the outcome of this meeting, with some expressing skepticism about its potential impact on the situation in Afghanistan. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously indicated that a joint statement from the participating nations will be endorsed at the conclusion of the meeting.

As the international community awaits the developments in Kazan, the focus remains on the discussions around the future inclusivity of the Afghan government and collaborative efforts against terrorism and drug-related crime. (ILKHA)
