The plane, a Sea Wind 3000, attempted to take off multiple times from Lake Sammamish near a Seattle suburb before taking a nosedive into the water from about 50 feet up in the air.

First responders arrived to find local residents trying to rescue the plane's occupants. Firefighters sent swimmers looking for other victims but determined that only two people were on the floatplane.

One of the victims was pulled onto a bystander's boat by a local resident who swam underneath the plane. Both victims were then taken to shore, where bystanders performed CPR until fire crews took over.

One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. (ILKHA)
