The epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 705 kilometers northeast of Tauranga on New Zealand's North Island, the agency said.

The initial assessment suggests that the earthquake is unlikely to have caused a tsunami that poses a threat to New Zealand, according to the country's National Emergency Management Agency.

There have been no immediate reports of potential damage or casualties. (ILKHA)
