HÜDA PAR supports alcohol ban, calls for national implementation

In a press statement, Emiroğlu shared his party's views on a range of pressing issues, including the controversial alcohol ban in Istanbul and escalating tensions in regions such as Kirkuk and Deir Ez-Zor.

Alcohol Consumption: A Public Disaster

Emiroğlu began by commending the Istanbul Governor, Mr. Davut Gül, for the bold decision to ban the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public seaside areas, beaches, parks, picnic spots, and recreation areas, excluding licensed establishments. The decision, issued on August 17, 2023, aimed to curb incidents frequently involving intoxicated individuals.

Emiroğlu stated: "This decision should be implemented nationwide and enshrined in law, not just through a circular. Additionally, banning the sale of alcoholic beverages by licensed businesses in these public areas is crucial to combating crime and criminals. Alcohol consumption is a major public order disruption that leads to violence, murder cases, family breakdowns, and societal corruption. All available statistics support this assertion."

However, Emiroğlu expressed disappointment over the Istanbul Bar Association's lawsuit filed against the Administrative Court to annul the decision, describing it as "a lawsuit against the peace of society."

Kirkuk and Deir Ez-Zor: Tensions and Unity

Turning to the events in Kirkuk, Emiroğlu urged all parties involved to exercise caution against provocations and divisive actions. He emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity among Kurds, Turkmens, and Arabs, advocating for a peaceful coexistence that transcends ethnic and sectarian divides.

Emiroğlu cautioned against any discourse or action that might escalate the situation into an ethnic-based crisis, emphasizing that the primary goal should be the peaceful and secure cohabitation of these diverse communities.

Regarding clashes between Arab tribes and groups affiliated with the PKK in Syria's Deir Ez-Zor countryside, Emiroğlu expressed concern for the civilian population caught in the crossfire. He criticized the PYD, a Syrian offshoot of the PKK, for exacerbating the hardships faced by civilians in the region and potentially fueling ethnic conflicts.

Emiroğlu called for a sensitive approach to protect the civilian population and preserve the region's demographic structure. He stressed the need for a political solution to end the long-standing civil war in Syria, emphasizing the importance of an inclusive constitution and administration to stabilize the country.
