The decision, according to presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, is part of the President's commitment to ensuring a high standard of efficiency and quality in both foreign and domestic service delivery to all Nigerian citizens, residents, and potential visitors.

The recall does not affect Nigeria's permanent representatives at the United Nations in New York and Geneva, as they will be needed for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled for later in the month. Nigeria has a total of 109 diplomatic missions worldwide, comprising 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates.

Tinubu, who has initiated some of the most significant reforms in the country in decades, is set to engage in discussions with U.S. President Joe Biden during the general assembly. Additionally, he plans to meet with leaders from Brazil, India, South Korea, and Germany as part of the G20 meeting taking place later in the month.

The recall of the ambassadors is a significant move by President Tinubu and is likely to be seen as a sign of his determination to improve the performance of the Nigerian foreign service.

It remains to be seen how the recall will be implemented and what impact it will have on Nigeria's relations with other countries. (ILKHA)
