Turkish road vehicle registrations show significant increase in July

In a recent statement released by Türkiye's statistical agency, it was reported that there was a total of 232,253 road motor vehicle registrations recorded in the country for the month of July.

The figures indicated a substantial increase of 19.9% compared to the previous month.

Breaking down the vehicle registrations for July, motorcycles took the lead, accounting for 43.7% of the total, followed closely by cars at 41.3%. Small trucks contributed 9.3% to the registrations, while tractors made up 3.5%. Trucks represented 1.6% of the total, followed by minibuses at 0.3%, buses at 0.2%, and special purpose vehicles at 0.1%.

Impressive Month-over-Month and Year-over-Year Growth

Compared to the previous month, the statistics revealed significant growth across various vehicle types. Small trucks experienced a surge of 32.7%, cars saw a 26.9% increase, trucks showed growth of 21.8%, motorcycles rose by 13.7%, minibuses increased by 13.3%, and tractors saw a marginal uptick of 0.5%. However, special purpose vehicles and buses saw a decrease of 54.4% and 6.5% respectively.

The year-over-year comparison was even more remarkable. In July, registrations soared by 107.5% compared to the same month the previous year. Minibuses led the pack with a staggering increase of 235.2%, followed by motorcycles at 199.8%, cars at 75.9%, and tractors at 75.6%. Small trucks, special purpose vehicles, buses, and trucks also displayed significant year-over-year growth rates.

Rising Total Vehicle Registrations

As of the end of July, the total number of registered road motor vehicles reached an impressive 27,754,948. Cars continued to dominate the landscape, making up 53.3% of the total, while motorcycles accounted for 16.8%. Small trucks and tractors contributed 15.9% and 7.7% respectively, with trucks representing 3.4%. Minibuses, buses, and special purpose vehicles made up the remaining percentages.

July Vehicle Handovers

A notable 901,725 road motor vehicles were handed over during July. The majority were cars, constituting 62.9% of the total, followed by motorcycles at 15.7%, and small trucks at 14.8%. Tractors, trucks, minibuses, buses, and special purpose vehicles accounted for the rest.

Brands in Focus

Fiat and Renault secured the top positions in the distribution of trademarks for newly registered cars in July, with 13.7% and 13.3% respectively. Other significant contenders included Volkswagen (9.5%), Opel (7.5%), Peugeot (6.5%), and Citroen (6.0%). Various other brands collectively accounted for 7.3% of the total.

Overall Trends for the Year

In the January-July period, road motor vehicle registrations saw a remarkable increase of 86.1% compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching a total of 1,289,896 vehicles. Withdrawn road motor vehicles decreased by 18.6% to 17,309. This translated to a net increase of 1,272,587 registered vehicles during this period.

Fuel and Engine Size Distribution

Gasoline-fueled cars dominated the registration landscape, making up 67.4% of the 530,778 registered cars in the January-July period. Diesel-fueled, hybrid, electric, and LPG-fueled cars followed with shares of 19.1%, 8.6%, 3.4%, and 1.5% respectively. At the end of July, diesel-fueled cars accounted for 36.3% of the total, followed by LPG-fueled cars at 34.1%, and gasoline-fueled cars at 28.0%. Hybrid and electric cars constituted 1.2% and 0.2% respectively.

Colors and Engine Sizes of Registered Cars

Among the cars registered in the January-July period, 35.4% had an engine size of 1300cc or less, while 24.2% fell within the 1401-1500cc range. 1301-1400cc and 1501-1600cc engines represented 20.2% and 9.9% respectively. Cars with larger engines were also present, with 6.2% having 1601-2000cc engines and 0.7% sporting engines of 2001cc and above.

Color Preferences

When it came to color preferences, grey emerged as the top choice, with 34.1% of registered cars being this shade. White and blue followed with 29.2% and 12.3% respectively, while black, red, and green accounted for 10.2%, 7.6%, and 2.8% respectively. Less popular choices included orange, yellow, and brown, each representing less than 3% of the total. (ILKHA)
