A powerful explosion shook the Turkish port of Kocaeli's Derince, located approximately 100 miles from Istanbul, resulting in at least 12 people being injured.

The incident occurred at around 14:35 local time and caused widespread panic and concern among residents.

The blast originated from the silos owned by the Turkish Grain Board, causing a massive plume of smoke to engulf the area, as seen in photos circulating on social media.

Witnesses described the explosion as "earthquake-like," with homes shaking and thick black smoke billowing for miles.

Kocaeli Governor Seddar Yavuz confirmed that twelve people were injured in the incident, with two of them in serious condition. The exact cause of the explosion remains unknown, leaving authorities and residents anxious for answers.

Local Mayor Zeki Aygün, who was about 1 km away from the site of the explosion, also felt the impact of the blast, likening it to an earthquake.
