494 thousand 52 people immigrated to Türkiye in 2022

In 2022, number of immigrants decreased by 33.2% compared to the previous year and declined to 494 thousand 52 people, the Turkish Statistical Institute said in a statement on Monday.

While 52.9% of this population were males, 47.1% were females. When immigrant population was examined by citizenship, 94 thousand 409 persons were Turkish citizens and 399 thousand 643 persons were foreign nationals.

466 thousand 914 people emigrated from Türkiye

Number of emigrants increased by 62.3% compared to the previous year and reached to 466 thousand 914 people in 2022. While 55.7% of this population were males, 44.3% were females. When emigrant population was examined by citizenship, 139 thousand 531 persons were Turkish citizens and 327 thousand 383 persons were foreign nationals.

The largest migrant population was in the 25-29 age group

In 2022, it was seen that 12.2% of the immigrant population were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by 20-24 age group with 11.7% and 30-34 age group with 11.3%, respectively. When the age distribution of emigrant population was analyzed, it was seen that 15.8% of them were in the 25-29 age group. This age group was followed by 30-34 age group with 13.4% and 20-24 age group with 12.8%.

The province with the highest number of immigrants and emigrants was İstanbul

When immigrant population in 2022 were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest immigrant population with the proportion of 35.4%. İstanbul was followed by Antalya with 14.8%, Ankara with 5.4%, Bursa with 3.9% and Mersin with 3.8%, respectively.

When the emigrants were analyzed by provinces, it was seen that İstanbul had the largest emigrant population with the proportion of 39.5%. İstanbul was followed by Ankara with 9.8%, Antalya with 6.7%, Samsun with 3.4% and İzmir with 3%, respectively.

25% of foreign immigrants were comprised of Russian citizens

Citizens of Russian Federation took the first place in the foreign immigrant population in 2022 with 25%. This group was followed by citizens of Ukraine with 8.1%, Iran with 6.5%, Afghanistan with 5.4% and Iraq with 4.8%, respectively.

 On the other hand, Iraqi citizens took the first place in the foreign emigrant population with 20%. This group was followed by citizens of Iran with 10.6%, Uzbekistan with 7%, Afghanistan with 6% and Turkmenistan with 4.8%, respectively. (ILKHA)
