The incident took place in Zuhrabi, a vicinity near the provincial capital Aybak city, when a motorcycle carrying two security personnel collided head-on with a passenger bus, as confirmed by a statement from the provincial police office on Sunday.

Tragically, the collision resulted in the deaths of the two security personnel, while 13 others, including a woman, sustained injuries, according to the statement.

The main causes of road accidents in Afghanistan, such as this one, are often attributed to reckless driving, poorly constructed roads, and a lack of safety measures during travel on congested routes. These factors contribute to the high number of road accidents in the mountainous country. Shockingly, over the past three months alone, nearly 400 individuals have reportedly lost their lives in road crashes.

Efforts to improve road safety and enhance transportation infrastructure remain crucial in Afghanistan to mitigate the risks associated with road travel and prevent further tragedies. (ILKHA)
