The meeting focused on consular affairs and the status of Iranian prisoners in Azerbaijan, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the customs departments of both nations, particularly in the four border regions.

“We are committed to strengthening our relations with Azerbaijan,” said Ambassador Mousavi. “We believe that cooperation between our two countries is in the best interests of both our peoples.”

Relations between Iran and Azerbaijan have a long history of cooperation. The two countries share a border and have strong economic ties.

In recent years, the two countries have taken steps to further strengthen their ties. In November 2021, the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan met in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and agreed to expand cooperation in a number of areas, including trade, energy, and transportation.

The meeting between Ambassador Mousavi and Deputy Foreign Minister Rezayev is a further sign of the commitment of both countries to strengthening their ties. (ILKHA)
