Magnitude 6.6 earthquake hits Atlantic Ocean, no tsunami threat detected

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has reported a significant earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 in the Atlantic Ocean.

The earthquake happened approximately 350 miles east of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and about 125 miles north of Antigua and Barbuda.

The epicenter of the quake was situated at a depth of 9.9 km, and it occurred at 4:28 pm Eastern Time, according to the USGS.

Shortly after the initial earthquake, a 4.2 magnitude aftershock took place in close proximity. This aftershock originated from a depth of 9.9 km and struck precisely at 5 pm ET.

Following the seismic event, the National Weather Service's Tsunami Warning Center (TWC) in Palmer, Alaska, issued several bulletins to reassure residents that there is currently no threat of a tsunami. (ILKHA)
