Among the 13 individuals and entities subject to asset freezes and travel bans are figures such as Heidar Pasandideh, the governor of Sanandaj prison, the IRGC Cyber Defence Command, and the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution.

The sanctions also target the Iran’s cyber activities, including the monitoring and prosecuting of cybercrimes and the tracking of dissidents.

The Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, claimed that the sanctions were a "clear message to the regime" that the UK will not tolerate its "malign behavior."

"Our new sanctions regime will help to ensure there can be no hiding place for those who seek to do us harm," he said. (ILKHA)
