Zelenskyy, Scholz discuss Ukraine support, security guarantees

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a phone call on Monday to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy thanked Scholz for Germany's support for Ukraine, including the €2.7 billion defense package and the €8.8 billion multi-year defense support plan. He also noted the important signals of Germany in support of Ukraine at the London Recovery Conference and the European Council meeting.

The two leaders discussed the formats of future security guarantees for Ukraine. They also coordinated their positions on the eve of the NATO Summit in Vilnius and exchanged views on the current state of the grain deal and prospects for its continuation.

Zelenskyy informed Scholz about the situation on the battlefield. He said that Ukrainian forces are continuing to resist the Russian invasion and that they are making progress in some areas.

The two leaders agreed to continue working together to support Ukraine and to bring an end to the war. (ILKHA)
