The incident occurred on Friday evening near Londiani, a town located in the Rift Valley region, approximately 200 kilometers northwest of Nairobi.

Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene; however, the severity of the wreckage posed challenges in determining the exact number of casualties, with authorities suspecting additional individuals could be trapped.

The Kenya Red Cross Society reported that 32 injured victims were immediately transported to hospitals, urging the public to donate blood to support their treatment. Rescue operations faced difficulties due to heavy rainfall, impeding efforts to free those still trapped inside the damaged vehicles.

Transport Minister Kipchumba Murkomen visited the accident site on Saturday morning, pledging to implement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. Among the proposed actions is the relocation of markets away from highways to enhance overall safety.

President William Ruto conveyed his deepest condolences to the grieving families, acknowledging the distressing nature of the accident. He also urged all motorists to exercise utmost caution on the roads, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving practices. (ILKHA)
