UAE leaders pardon over 2,600 prisoners ahead of Eid Al Adha

President Sheikh Mohamed led the initiative by authorizing the release of 988 inmates on Wednesday.

The following day, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, ordered the freedom of 650 prisoners representing diverse nationalities.

Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi of Sharjah directed the release of 390 inmates, while in Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi granted pardons to 356 prisoners.

Furthermore, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Ruler of Ajman, agreed to release 166 prisoners who demonstrated commendable conduct during their incarceration.

Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, took action to set free 108 prisoners, and Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, also pardoned prisoners, although the precise number was not disclosed.

The tradition of pardoning prisoners during religious festivities, such as Eid Al Adha, is a customary practice in the UAE.

These pardons primarily encompass individuals convicted of minor offenses, financial crimes, or those who have exhibited exemplary behavior while serving their sentences.

The objective behind the release of prisoners is to reinforce familial bonds and foster the generous spirit associated with the religious festival.

The leaders expressed their hopes that the pardoned individuals would reintegrate positively into society, seizing the opportunity for a fresh start. (ILKHA)
