The distressing incident took place on Notestik beach in Kuşadası, where the bodies of the dolphins were found. Upon examination, it was determined that both dolphins belonged to the striped dolphin species (Stenella coeruleoalba).

Local residents who came across the dolphins immediately alerted the officials of the Ecosystem Protection and Nature Lovers Association (EKODOSD).

Upon their arrival at the scene, the association officials confirmed the unfortunate demise of both dolphins. Additionally, signs of deterioration were observed on the surface of their bodies, further underscoring the tragic nature of the incident.

In an effort to investigate the cause of death and gain further insights, tissue and tooth samples were collected from the dolphins. These samples will be sent to the Turkish Marine Research Foundation (TÜDAV) for analysis and examination.

To handle the situation respectfully, the Kuşadası Municipality dispatched vehicles to transport the deceased dolphins. The animals were then given a proper burial, with lime poured over them as a precautionary measure.

The discovery of these deceased dolphins serves as a reminder of the pressing need to protect marine life and preserve the delicate ecosystem. Efforts to determine the cause of death and prevent such incidents in the future remain crucial, as marine animals continue to face various threats in their natural habitats. (ILKHA)
