The incident claimed numerous lives, including those of women and children. The Ministry extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

Drawing attention to the recurrent nature of such tragedies in the Mediterranean, the Ministry emphasized that merely addressing the immediate consequences would not suffice. "Without tackling the root causes of irregular migration, it is impossible to prevent such heart-wrenching incidents," stated the Ministry. They further highlighted the detrimental effects of any counter-solutions, which would only exacerbate the plight of migrants and refugees and lead to an increased loss of life at sea.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry underlined the collective duty and responsibility to improve the living conditions of migrants and refugees and find sustainable solutions to the challenges they face. The recent boat sinking served as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for the international community to address this pressing issue and work towards finding comprehensive solutions.

"As we approach World Refugee Day on June 20, this tragic incident underscores the imperative for the international community to assume a fair share of responsibility and burden, while fostering collaboration to eliminate the root causes of migratory movements in our region," emphasized the Ministry.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry's appeal highlights the importance of concerted efforts and collective action to confront the underlying factors driving irregular migration. With World Refugee Day fast approaching, the call for fair responsibility and burden sharing resonates strongly, urging the international community to prioritize finding sustainable solutions and alleviate the suffering endured by migrants and refugees.” (ILKHA)
