The tragic event occurred in the early hours of Monday near the border of Kwara state and neighboring Niger state, according to Okasanmi Ajayi, a spokesperson for the police.

According to Ajayi, "Based on the information we have gathered, a boat capsized, resulting in the unfortunate death of about 100 people."

The victims, which included women and children, had attended an overnight wedding ceremony in the village of Egboti, located in Niger state. Usman Ibrahim, a resident of the village, confirmed this detail.

Amidst ongoing search efforts, it remains uncertain whether any survivors have been found at this time. Authorities are intensifying their search and rescue operations in hopes of locating any potential survivors.
