The tragic incident unfolded in the Hunter Valley region at approximately 11:30 PM local time, when the coach reportedly rolled over at a roundabout.
According to a witness outside John Hunter Hospital, the ill-fated bus was transporting wedding guests from a reception to their accommodation. As news of the crash spread, a sense of confusion and deep concern gripped those involved.
Responding to the emergency, a large-scale operation was swiftly launched, involving six helicopters and three rescue trucks. Initial reports indicated a death toll of 10, while the injured were promptly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
NSW police have since confirmed that 18 passengers managed to escape the crash unharmed, offering a small glimmer of relief amidst the tragedy.
“The driver of the bus – a 58-year-old man – was taken to hospital under police guard for mandatory testing and assessment,” police said.
