Shoukry took the opportunity to congratulate Fidan on his recent appointment as the Foreign Minister of Türkiye.
Fidan assumed the position from his predecessor, Mevlut Cavusoglu, earlier in the week. Prior to his current role, Fidan served as the head of Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) for a 13-year period.
In April, Cavusoglu, who was then the Turkish foreign minister, announced that Türkiye and Egypt had agreed to strengthen their bilateral ties and elevate their diplomatic relations to the highest level.
During a joint news conference in Ankara with Shoukry, Cavusoglu stated that concrete measures were being taken to upgrade representation to the level of embassies. He also mentioned that a joint statement would be issued in the near future to provide further details on the progress made.
Diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Egypt have been maintained at the level of charges d'affaires since 2013.
However, during Cavusoglu's visit to Cairo on March 18, the first by a Turkish foreign minister in over a decade, he expressed the shared intention of both countries to swiftly elevate their diplomatic relations to the highest level possible. (ILKHA)
