Following the closure of Atatürk Airport for scheduled passenger flights, all commercial passenger flights were transferred to Istanbul Airport on April 6, 2019, including the relocation of the IATA airport code IST to the new airport.
In 2022, Istanbul Airport welcomed over 64 million passengers, solidifying its status as the busiest airport in Europe and the seventh busiest worldwide in terms of total passenger traffic.
With over 48 million international passengers served, it also ranked as the fifth busiest airport globally for international passenger traffic, as per ACI World traffic data. (ILKHA)
