The situation escalated after an extraordinarily heavy rainfall, equivalent to six months' worth, poured down within a span of just 36 hours.

The floodwaters have affected virtually every river between Bologna and the northeastern coast, spanning a distance of 115 kilometers (70 miles).

The country has also experienced around 280 landslides as a result of the extreme weather conditions. Italian authorities have deemed this disaster as the most severe in the past century.

Tragically, additional casualties were discovered on Thursday, further highlighting the devastating impact of the floods.

Two elderly farmers, reportedly attempting to relocate a fridge in a flooded house, are believed to have been electrocuted.

The crisis has already forced approximately 10,000 individuals to evacuate, and in response to the escalating situation, authorities in Ravenna issued an immediate evacuation order for three additional villages at risk of flooding.

While electricity has been partially restored, approximately 27,000 people are still without power.

The aftermath of this flooding catastrophe continues to unfold as Italy grapples with the extensive damage and the urgent need to provide aid and support to affected communities. (ILKHA)
