Turkish Foreign Minister stresses cooperation for lasting stability in Syria

He highlighted the collaboration with the United Nations (UN) and the significance of cooperating with the Assad regime.

Cavusoglu stated that such cooperation is crucial for achieving sustainable stability in the country.

He also mentioned Turkey's role as the host of the largest number of Syrian refugees, with 550,000 individuals having returned to their homes since the establishment of safe zones.

The safe and dignified return of people and the provision of infrastructure for their basic needs are essential priorities.

Cavusoglu further noted that the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, Iran, and Syria had agreed to establish a committee aimed at normalizing relations between Turkey and Syria.

A roadmap was agreed upon, and discussions will focus on counterterrorism efforts, the political process, and future steps.

Cavusoglu expressed the possibility of future meetings and the potential for a gathering of leaders to prepare for such an event.

Since 2011, Syria has been engulfed in a brutal civil war triggered by the forceful repression of pro-democracy protests by the Bashar al-Assad regime.

The conflict has resulted in the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives and the displacement of over 10 million people, according to estimates by the UN. (ILKHA)
