US F-16 fighter jet crashes during training in South Korea

The US military has confirmed that a US F-16 fighter jet crashed during a training session near a major military base in South Korea.

According to the US Air Force in South Korea, the incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. local time when the jet, belonging to the 8th Fighter Wing, went down in an agricultural area near Osan Air Base.

The pilot safely ejected from the aircraft and was subsequently taken to the nearest medical facility. The military has reported no injuries to civilians as a result of the crash.

Local authorities, including the fire department, were dispatched to the scene to extinguish any fires. The pilot was engaged in a routine training flight at the time of the incident, and an investigation into the crash is currently underway.

It is worth noting that Osan Air Base is situated approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) from the North Korean border, making it the closest US Air Force base to the neighboring country. (ILKHA)
