The attack took place on Thursday morning at the Ougarou detachment, and the army has stated that the besieged soldiers were able to kill at least 40 "terrorists" before reinforcements arrived.

Burkina Faso, along with other West African countries, has been fighting against an insurgency that has spread from neighboring Mali, causing thousands of deaths and displacing over 2 million people.

Despite increasing security operations, violence in Burkina Faso has continued to escalate in recent months, and the military has been accused of killing civilians during anti-insurgency missions.

The United Nations has reported that at least 150 people were killed by men dressed in army uniforms during a raid on a village in northern Burkina Faso last week.

The military government has condemned the attack and pledged to investigate the incident. (ILKHA)
