Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wins vote of confidence in National Assembly

Pakistan's Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif won a vote of confidence in the National Assembly on Thursday with 180 votes in his favor out of 342 members.

The lower house of parliament's Speaker, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, announced the result of the vote.

Shehbaz Sharif expressed his gratitude to the members for trusting him and said he would always respect the parliament's decision.

“Grateful to PML-N Parliamentary Party, and the leadership & legislators of coalition parties for their continued trust in me. Coalition politics is a unique experience in Pakistan's democratic evolution. We are united in strengthening Parliament & saying no to politics of diktat,” Sharif wrote on Twitter.

Foreign Affairs Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari tabled the resolution for the vote of confidence which stated the National Assembly's full confidence in Shehbaz Sharif's leadership.

The Speaker instructed the National Assembly Secretariat to publish the names of all members who voted in favor of the resolution on its website. (ILKHA)
