Erdogan emphasizes importance of disability rights and participation in society

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday spoke at the appointment ceremony of 3,500 teachers with disabilities in Ankara.

He emphasized the importance of the participation of persons with disabilities in society and acknowledged the progress that has been made in recent years.

He also mentioned the need for a change in mindset towards disabled individuals, stating that neglecting this group of people would mean giving up a significant portion of a country's potential.

Erdoğan highlighted the past shortcomings in Turkey regarding the exercise of disabled individuals' rights, including education and employment, and noted that every individual is unique and contributes to society.

The president celebrated the achievement of major reforms in the field of disability rights beyond just material contributions, which has expanded institutional capacity and achieved a significant mindset revolution

Erdoğan also mentioned that over the last decade, approximately 11,500 teachers with disabilities have joined the education community.

Finally, he emphasized that the level of disadvantaged groups' participation in society is an important sign of a country's development, progress, and advancement. (ILKHA)
