Indonesia's western province of West Sumatra was hit by a 7.3-magnitude earthquake early on Tuesday, which could potentially trigger a tsunami, according to the country's meteorology, climatology, and geophysics agency.

The quake occurred at 03:00 a.m. local time on Tuesday (2000 GMT on Monday) with the epicenter located 177 km northwest in the Mentawai Islands district, and the depth of the quake was 84 km under the seabed.
