The party is concerned that the move could have a negative impact on the stability and harmony of the North African nation.
A written statement by HÜDA PAR on Saturday stated that in 2019, Kais Saied was elected as president with the commitment to uphold justice and freedom. However, his unconstitutional decision to dissolve both the government and parliament in 2021 has undermined his promises to lead the country towards free elections and a return to political normalcy. Instead, his actions have been gradually moving the nation closer towards a dictatorship, with concerns over the erosion of democratic institutions and practices.
The statement also recalled the ongoing efforts of pressure and intimidation directed towards Rached Ghannouchi, the former Speaker of the Tunisian Parliament and his political party Ennahda, which had achieved a significant victory in the nation's first free elections.
HÜDA PAR strongly condemned the raid on Rached Ghannouchi's house by hundreds of police officers, his subsequent detention and arrest by the court, and the closure of all offices of Ennahda, which the party considers a violation of human rights, freedom of thought and expression, and peace and stability in the country.
The party called on Kais Saied to abandon his dictatorial ambitions, which serve imperialist powers, and for Rached Ghannouchi to be released immediately, and for the principle of the rule of law to be upheld.
HÜDA PAR also urged international institutions and organizations to oppose and condemn Kais Saied’s dictatorial practices. (ILKHA)
