The purpose is to find ways to put the UN on the pathway to recognition of the Islamic Emirate through baby steps and principled recognition, Muhammed said.

Mohammed emphasized the importance of engagement with the acting government to hold them accountable for their actions.

Meanwhile, former US special envoy for Afghanistan’s reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad proposed four measures for the meeting, including embracing the full implementation of the Doha Agreement and developing a roadmap for implementation.

Zabiullah Mujahid, Islamic Emirate’s spokesman, welcomed the UN's convening of the meeting and expressed hope for a reasonable path towards recognition. (ILKHA)
