“The decision regarding the presidential candidacy of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was taken unanimously. The decision will be sent to the Supreme Election Board next week,” AK Party Parliamentary Group Chairman İsmet Yılmaz said.

Erdoğan has served as president since August 28, 2014.

Following the approval of constitutional changes in a referendum held in 2017, the elected President will be both the head of state and head of government of Turkey, taking over the latter role from the to-be-abolished office of the Prime Minister. (ILKHA)
